What YouOS Need Is A New OS!

As of late, there has been so much talk of cellphones, mp3 players, betas of software for which we will be charged insane amounts of money when they are released, and (of course) the constant speculation of what Apple and Google are going to do next.

Well, it's refreshing to see that sometimes something new shows up. I've seen some similar ideas, but these techies at MIT really pulled it off. Check out the coolness at YouOS. Basically, you have a pretty full Operating System environment that runs completely in a browser. Whoa! After you start using tools like Google's online spreadsheet (in a "sub-browser" browser window) you'll be on your way! ... now if only Microsoft would cleanly create "Office Live" so it doesn't try to install 400MB of stuff to my harddisk and still call it a browser based version of Office. ;)

What Happened To The iPod 6G?

When Apple released the iPod Video (5G) a while back, I was really glad they'd finally "gotten their video on." But it turned out that they sort of disappointed me with the less than great video format resolution. I suppose, on a 2.5" screen, it looks fine on the iPod, itself. But, I'd want to be able to hook it up to a TV and watch movies or TV on something a bit bigger. ...and what happens to my widescreen? Sony had the right idea with the widescreen PSP. But, they decided - for whatever copy-protecting-money-extorting reason - to not include the ability to watch content on another display device.

So, my hopes were dashed - twice. Then, as of last February, I'd heard that Apple might be releasing the iPod Video 6G, with its special touch-screen and widescreen display, by April of 2006. Interesting, but totally not here. So, what happened? I keep reading and searching, but haven't found anything. Does ANYONE - including Apple - know what's going on with this product? At this point, I would be teetering on a fence trying to decide if the 5G video version makes sense, or if I should wait; if I wanted to purchase one. All Apple iPod-loving fans want to just continue to keep their stuff in one place; and I'm sure Apple wants us there, too. I have to wonder what's up with the silent treatment? Where's the 6G? Where are the leaks? I don't want fakes, mock-ups, or anything, I want what everyone else wants: to see the device and know when it can be purchased.

Until then, we can look at these pictures and wonder what might come next!
